The Michigan State Senate has approved a House approved measure that would end lifetime health benefits for retired state lawmakers. It’s just a drop in the bucket as far as the state budget is concerned and was vociferously opposed by some State Senators who accused its sponsors of destroying the institution, and that they should be ashamed.

It was proposed by democrats but attracted support and opposition from both parties. Most call it a symbolic gesture to give lawmakers cover if and when they try to cuts state employee benefits.
